"The Commercial Appeal," Memphis, TN - August 1925 MRS J.L. WEBB DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Memphis Woman Was Member of Distinguished Family. Mrs. Isadore Webb, a member of one of the south's most distinguished families, and a resident of Memphis for the past 57 years, died yesterday afternoon at the residence of her niece, Mrs. S.H. Lamb [Georgianna Cartwright], 1248 Overton Park Avenue, after an illness of a month. She was 80 years old. Mrs. Webb was born at Somerville, Tenn., Nov 25, 1845, at Tranquill Hall, the old home of her family there. Her parents were Levi and Georgiana Walker Ketchum. She received her education at the Somerville Academy. In 1868, she married John L. Webb of Memphis, and came here to live. Mr. Webb had served throughout the Civil War as a private in the Confederate army. Afterward he was engaged in the cotton business up to the time of his death in 1898. He was a cousin of Swanee [Sawney] Webb, founder of the famous Webb School at Bell Buckle, and a brother of Major Thomas S. Webb, a well known lawyer in Knoxville. Mrs. Webb was in all respects a true representative of the spirit of the old south. She imparted to her home and to her family, to which she was devoted, the same air of refinement and culture in which she had been reared herself. She was an accomplished musician, and was always a keen student of the Scriptures. By faith a Christian Scientist, she led a life exemplary in its kindliness. A daughter, Mrs. Horace H. Smith [Anna Walker Webb] of Nashville, a grandson, John L. Webb, who is assistant sales manager for the Cudahy Packing Co. here, and a niece, Mrs. S.H. Lamb, survive her. A son, Felix Walker Webb, died in 1898, the same year in which the elder Mr. Webb died. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home of J.W. Norris this afternoon at 3 o'clock, followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. C.E. Van Camp will conduct the services. [Obituary written by Anna Hart Webb, widow of Felix Webb.]
